Flu Clinics to Begin in October

Seasonal flu vaccination is now recommended for everyone age 6 months and older. As usual, the flu vaccine protects people from the three strains of influenza that are likely to be circulating this flu season. For the 2010-2011 season, the vaccine is comprised of A/California (2009 H1N1), A/Perth (H3N2), and B/Brisbane. Flu vaccines provide annual protection and flu strains change regularly, so it is important to get a new flu shot every year. (Note: even if you received your H1N1 vaccination last year, you need to be immunized again this season.)

Single Stream Recycling Has Begun

The Town of Wethersfield is implementing a new residential automated curbside single stream recycling collection system. This program will help control costs and increase recycling participation by making it easier and more convenient for residents. In an effort to make this a smooth transition, we have listed pertinent information below on how the new system will operate:

Additional Plastics Accepted for Recycling

Effective May 1st, residents of Wethersfield and other towns whose recyclables go to the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority's Mid-Connecticut Project will be able to recycle all plastic food and beverage containers, not just those made from No. 1 and No. 2 plastics.

Two recent developments made this expansion of CRRA's recycling program possible:

Health District Provides Bicycle Helmets at Low Cost

With the summer vacation here, a great gift idea for the active child or adult in your life is a helmet. The Central Connecticut Health District has been selling low cost bicycle helmets to residents since 1997. All bicycle helmets are Snell and ANSI certified. They are available in a variety of colors in child and adult sizes.

Webb House Receiving Historical Facelift

Window glazing is repaired as part of the Webb house restoration.

While red is often considered a traditional color for New England homes today, the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum's Joseph Webb House is returning to the exterior tones of its adolescence.

FEMA Flood Map Changes

In September 2008, the Town of Wethersfield adopted new flood maps prepared by FEMA. These maps replaced the old 1982 maps and were created digitally using new aerial photography.

Budget Adopted, Mill Rate Set

At the May 13, 2010 Special Meeting of the Wethersfield Town Council, the Council adopted the 2010-2011 Budget. Total budget amount is $82,696,648. Mill levy to support the budget will be 30.66, which is a reduction of .02 from the current year's levy of 30.68.
